Playhouse Build-a-thon August 5 th, 2017 Playhouse Build Day Volunteers are welcomed from the community, please contact Walt Stephens for more information and to sign up to help. Please use the link below to volunteer or contact the Team Leader Walt Stephens . https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/GoletaRotary Members who would like to participate in the build-a-thon can click the become a fundraiser button and enter their name, email and phone number (but they don't have to worry about fund raising). Habitat for Humanity will be hosting our Playhouse Build-a-thon at St. Joseph’s Church in Carpinteria, on Saturday, August 5th. The Playhouse Build-a-thon is a fundraiser designed to provide a fun team service opportunity. Groups of 7-10 members can sign up to build a playhouse with Habitat. Each playhouse is donated to a local non-profit or a family in need. An experienced crew leader will lead your group through the process of building a playhouse for young children. Fundraising The Rotary Club of Goleta Noontime has donated a $1000 to this project. The funds raised will cover the cost of the materials for each playhouse and help Habitat build more homes for working families in our community. Where does the playhouse go? Playhouses provide kids with an outlet for creativity in a fun and safe environment. Once the playhouse is built, it will be donated to a local family or youth-oriented non-profit organization. We work with groups and families who will truly appreciate the gift of a playhouse. Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County is a nonprofit committed to building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. They partner with low-income individuals and families in southern Santa Barbara County to build or improve a place they can call home. Future Habitat homeowners build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With their help, these homeowners achieve the support and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and their families. |

Service on the Santa Barbara Grand Jury
Aug 08, 2017
The Constitution of the State of California requires that a Civil Grand Jury be drawn and summoned at least once a year in each county. The Santa Barbara County Civil Grand Jury is a basic part of the government, within the judicial branch. The Civil Grand Jury acts independently, but is under the general control of the Superior Court as an investigatory body created for the protection of society and the enforcement of the law. The Civil Grand Jury is a delegation of dedicated and caring citizens who applied for the yearlong responsibility of keeping watch over the county’s numerous governmental agencies, institutions, cities, and districts. In 2011 after an annual application, screening, and interviewing process, Travis Gibbons was sworn in to serve on the Santa Barbara County Civil Grand Jury. The Civil Grand Jury differs from the Criminal Grand Jury, The Criminal Grand Jury is specially delegated by the District Attorney from the existing jury pool to oversee cases of special circumstance.
